FRP is made up of reinforced fibers and matrix. Generally, reinforced plastics are made of glass fiber reinforced unsaturated polyester, epoxy resin and phenolic resin as matrix, and glass fiber or its products as reinforcing materials.

The diameter of fiber (or whisker) is very small, generally less than 10 m, and the defect is less and smaller. The fracture strain is less than 30/1000. It is brittle material, easy to damage, fracture and corrode. The strength and modulus of matrix are much lower than those of fibers, but they can withstand large strains, often viscoelastic and elastoplastic. They are tough materials. FRP commonly used in engineering structure materials including carbon fiber (CFRP), glass fiber (GFRP) and aramid fiber (AFRP), the main form of sheet materials (cloth and plate) and bar (cable and reinforcement material) and profiles (grille type, I-shaped, honeycomb type etc.).
